Rock/metal magazine, KERRANG!
Aggressive styled fonts and pictures.
One main story surrounded by other images to do other stories within the magazine.
The images are all close ups, so people liking the bands can recognise the bands on the magazine.
The colour schemes are black and white, which is associated with the stereotypical people that would read the magazine. There is also a bit of read, but that’s because the cover lines aren’t necessarily placed around the hotspots.
The layout is more ordered and easy to look at.
Pop magazine, Q.
Calm fonts and pictures.
One main story to do with the main image, surrounded by other cover lines.
The images are close up/medium shots, and one full size image (head top toe)
The colour scheme is black with red or white on the top.  This makes the text all stand out.
The layout is more cluttered, but generally quite neat.
Classical magazine: Classical MUSIC
Formal images and text.
Main story takes up the whole of front cover. There are other cover lines, but they are small in context to the main story.
The image is sort of an eye level/ wide shot, to show the man sitting down on the bench.
The colour scheme is pale colours, which gives a formal look.
The layout is ordered, again, contributing to the ordered look.

Survey Results

I only got three people that filled out my survey, so to determine some results is going to be difficult.  The people who took my survey were aged 16 or 17. This is good as I want to aim my magazine at the older range of teenagers.  Most of the people who took the survey are female, and this then shows on the type of music they picked, being pop. This is a potential problem as I want to create a rock/metal magazine, but I can still take into consideration the results collected.  Another problem is that they don’t really read music magazines, so they might not know many of the conventions of the magazine, like colours that don’t go well together.  Most people picked different genres that I am basing my magazine around, like pop, which again isn’t really my target audience.  Things people would like to see in my magazine are mainly interviews. They also want ‘free stuff’ and gossip. New artist is a possibility and a good idea for my magazine, along with recommended artists.  Popular colours were black, white, red and blue. Colours I would include would be black, white, purple and green. Mor3e things to include in my magazine from my target research would be:
  • Tour Dates
  • Posters
  • Interviews
